Tickets to Friday's game between No. 2 Mandarin (3-0) and No. 1 Raines (4-0) sold out a week in advance, an unusual feat for high school football on the First Coast. The two teams will meet at the Graveyard, the Vikings' home field on Raines Avenue.
The Florida Times-Union reported that tickets sold out a full week before kickoff, calling it "an extreme rarity for high school sports on the First Coast." School administrators announced Friday, Sept. 11, that even media credentials had reached full capacity.
Unbeaten Rivals Meet for First Time Since 2018
The game pits Mandarin's Class 5A squad against Raines' Class 3A defending state champions. Both teams are unbeaten, and Raines carries an 18-game overall winning streak. The News4JAX Super 10 poll ranks Raines first and Mandarin second in the area. Nationally, On3's Florida Top 25 has Raines at No. 8 and Mandarin at No. 20.
The two programs have not met since Sept. 21, 2018, when Raines won 27-24 on a pass breakup as time expired. Both teams went on to win Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state championships that season.
Raines Defense Anchors Championship Run
Raines coach Donovan Masline, a Vikings alum, has compiled a 27-1 record over the past two seasons. His defense allowed just 91 points across a perfect 14-0 championship run in 2025, while the offense piled up 680 points. Defensive end Troy Butler recorded 25 tackles for loss and 10 sacks last season, and linebacker Johdeem Jones anchors the front again. Sophomore quarterback Sa'Mon Ellison-Morgan and four-star receiver Zion Green lead the offense.
Mandarin Leans on Deep Backfield
Mandarin coach Toby Bullock has the Mustangs rolling behind a deep backfield. Running back Shaunqueze Foster Jr. rushed for 1,217 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2025. Quarterback Knox Annis, a Miami commit who threw for 2,203 yards last season, connects with wide receiver Brysen Wright, rated No. 1 in the 2028 recruiting class by USA Today. Wright scored 15 total touchdowns in 2025.
Mustangs Show Depth in Week 4 Win
The Mustangs showed their depth Saturday, Sept. 12, in a 32-14 win over Nease. Chris Harrison scored on a 25-yard run, Foster added a 30-yard touchdown, Annis hit Wright for a score, and Emmanual Cole broke a 75-yard touchdown run. On defense, safety Kamauri Townsend has two of the team's three interceptions, and linebacker Jerel Stephens leads with 12 tackles through three games.
Raines rolled past Parker 43-8 in Week 4.
Bullock Preaches Preparation Over Playing Time
In an August preseason feature on News4JAX, Bullock laid out his philosophy for a schedule that includes two defending state champions: "536 hours of football in a season. You only get 45 hours of actual playing time … So 88% of the time you are in preparation. So our motto is find joy in the preparation."
Kickoff Set for Friday Night
Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Raines High School, 3663 Raines Ave.
