Bolles School graduate Caden Fordham earned a spot on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 53-man roster after going undrafted in April, the team confirmed on its website.
Fordham, a 2021 Bolles graduate who played linebacker at NC State, signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent with just a $2,000 bonus, On3 reported. He finished the preseason with 14 tackles, two tackles for loss and one pass defended across three games.
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles praised Fordham on multiple occasions during camp, according to the team's website.
Fellow Bolles alum Pyburn led NFL in preseason sacks, still got cut
Fellow Bolles graduate Jack Pyburn, class of 2022, also signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent. The outside linebacker posted 10 tackles, four sacks and five tackles for loss in three preseason games, according to a Bolles School news article. Pyburn led all NFL players in preseason sacks, NBC Sports reported.
Tampa Bay cut Pyburn despite those numbers. The Kansas City Chiefs claimed him off waivers Monday, according to the team's official roster announcement.
Pyburn had played at LSU before entering the draft. He had been involved in NCAA eligibility litigation that could have sent him back to college, but he withdrew that claim after Kansas City picked him up, NBC Sports reported, citing ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Both Bolles products shared the field in preseason finale against Jaguars
Both players were on the field together Friday, when the Jacksonville Jaguars hosted Tampa Bay in the preseason finale. After the game, Fordham and Pyburn posed for a photo with Dr. Kevin Kaplan, a 1995 Bolles graduate who serves as head team physician for both the Jaguars and The Bolles School. Kaplan has held the Jaguars role since 2013, according to UF Health.
Both were standout recruits during their Bolles careers
At Bolles, both players starred on the football field. Fordham was a four-star recruit ranked the No. 32 linebacker nationally in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports. Pyburn earned FHSAA Class 4A All-State honors during his senior year.
"A sure tackler and a solid special teams contributor, Fordham has very much made his case to make the 53-man roster," BucsGameday contributor James Hill wrote for SI.com on Aug. 7.
