UF Health Jacksonville launched a mobile medical unit that will bring screenings and primary care visits to neighborhoods across Northeast Florida.
The Mobile Outreach Care Clinic, which debuted Sept. 10, will rotate through pilot locations in Duval, Clay, Nassau and Baker counties, Action News Jax reported. No specific stops have been announced yet for Mandarin or elsewhere in Duval County.
The unit offers blood pressure, A1C diabetes and cholesterol screenings along with primary care and wellness visits, health education and care coordination. UF Health Jacksonville said additional preventive services may be added based on community feedback.
Shamika Baker Wright, vice president of external affairs and community engagement for UF Health Jacksonville, said the program depends on local partners to identify where the clinic is needed most.
"This initiative is really about listening to our communities and meeting people where they are," Wright said. "Our community partners understand the needs of the people they serve and their insight will help us determine where the mobile medical unit can have the greatest impact."
Patrick L. Green, senior vice president and Northeast Florida regional president of UF Health, said the unit extends care beyond the health system's hospitals and clinics. The pilot phase will gather data on patient demand to shape a long-term schedule.
How Mandarin groups can request a stop
UF Health Jacksonville is partnering with community organizations, faith-based groups, schools, employers and municipal agencies to choose visit sites. Mandarin churches, nonprofits and civic groups can request the clinic by emailing [email protected], according to UF Health Jacksonville's Facebook page.
Once stops are scheduled, patients will book appointments online through the UF Health Jacksonville website. Pre-registration will let staff coordinate staffing and patient flow at each location.
Locations are not yet set. Pilot dates and times will be posted on the health system's website as they are finalized. Residents can also call UF Health Jacksonville at (904) 244-0411.
