Mandarin residents have two days left to cast early ballots in the 2026 primary election, with both neighborhood voting sites open through Sunday, Aug. 16.
The Mandarin Branch Library at 3330 Kori Road and the South Mandarin Branch Library at 12125 San Jose Blvd. are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. No appointment is needed.
Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland reported that as of Wednesday, Aug. 12, a combined 39,844 ballots had been cast countywide through early voting and vote-by-mail, a 6.17% turnout rate. Of those, 23,849 came from in-person early voters, according to the county elections office.
Turnout has more than doubled since the first weekend of early voting, when the combined total stood at 22,148 ballots and a 3.43% rate.
"Waiting until Election Day can be risky because unexpected things can happen," Holland said in an Aug. 5 news release reported by the Florida Times-Union. "It's important to make a plan to vote."
Ballot includes Senate, governor's race and City Council special election
The Aug. 18 primary includes party nominations for U.S. Senate, governor and state Legislature, plus a special election for Jacksonville City Council At-Large Group 1 that is open to all registered voters regardless of party.
The City Council race features three candidates: Moné Holder, a Democrat; Addison Liberty Patrick, a Libertarian; and Deborah Wesley, a Republican. They are competing for the seat left vacant by council member Terrance Freeman, who resigned under Florida's resign-to-run law to pursue a state House seat. The winner will serve the remainder of Freeman's term, which expires June 30, 2027. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers advance to the Nov. 3 general election, according to News4Jax.
The U.S. Senate special election will choose nominees to fill the seat vacated by Marco Rubio, who became U.S. secretary of state. On the Republican side, appointed Sen. Ashley Moody faces three challengers. Democrats will choose between state Rep. Angie Nixon and Alex Vindman, according to Courthouse News Service.
Duval County School Board Districts 2, 4 and 6 are also on the ballot.
