The National Weather Service extended a coastal flood warning for the St. Johns River Basin through 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. The warning includes South Central Duval County, which covers Mandarin, and warns of significant coastal flooding.

What the warning means for Mandarin

The warning says numerous roads may close and low-lying homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure may be inundated. The Weather Service advises residents to protect flood-prone property and never drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. River levels remain high upstream

At Astor, the St. Johns River measured 3.7 feet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, above its 2.3-foot flood stage. The Weather Service forecast a slow decline but said moderate flooding could continue there for at least a couple of weeks. At DeLand, the river was at 4 feet, its flood stage, and was expected to start a slow decline toward action stage early next week, according to the National Weather Service Melbourne river statements. Astor and DeLand readings provide upstream context; the Jacksonville warning separately covers the St. Johns River Basin in Duval and neighboring counties.

Stay alert for changing conditions

Flooding is expected around high tide, and impacts will vary by location. Follow local emergency alerts and avoid roads with standing water or barricades.
