Food drive and leadership elections
Chair Scott Koslowski, representing the James Island Homeowners Association, told members at the Aug. 24 meeting that the committee will collect food donations for the Weaver Donation Center at the Sept. 28 session.
The committee also needs to form a nominations subcommittee for chair and vice chair elections set for Nov. 23. Neighborhood Coordinator Necole Jenkins said at the August meeting that at least three members are needed on the subcommittee, which must meet outside regular SE CPAC (Southeast Citizens Planning Advisory Committee) sessions.
At the Aug. 24 meeting, Koslowski said CPAC chairs are "advocating for clearer neighborhood rights and advance notice of upcoming agenda items to avoid learning about them through rumors such as the soccer property acquisition."
What came up in August
The Sept. 28 session is the first full SE CPAC meeting since Aug. 24, when members heard from Dr. Tracy Pierce, Duval County Public Schools chief of enrollment, on a ballot measure to continue funding the district's teacher supplemental salary initiative. Members raised concerns about aging school buildings, HVAC systems, facility renovations and possible school closures, according to the meeting summary.
Mayor's Representative Charles Griggs, director of community initiatives, told the Aug. 24 meeting that a city budget review was set for Sept. 8, with a final vote scheduled for Sept. 22. The outcome of that vote could not be confirmed as of Sept. 21.
North Florida TPO liaison Jim Hill reported at the August meeting that construction delays between Emerson Street and J. Turner Butler Boulevard are expanding southward. Lane additions and reconstruction from JTB to Baymeadows Road are scheduled to continue through 2030.
Residents who need disability accommodations can contact the city's Disabled Services Division at 904-255-5466 with at least three business days' notice. No agenda had been posted for the Sept. 28 meeting as of Sept. 21.
