Mandarin residents can fill a paper grocery bag with books for $10 at the Friends of the Mandarin Library book sale Friday and Saturday at the Mandarin Branch Library, 3330 Kori Road.

The sale runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Individual items are priced at $5 or less. The sale is cash only.

Used books, DVDs and puzzles for all ages

Shoppers will find used books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles, with selections for all ages, according to the Jacksonville Public Library's Instagram post announcing the event. The Friends group provides bags.

Proceeds support Mandarin Branch programs

Proceeds from the sale go toward programs and services at the Mandarin Branch, the library said. The volunteer-run Friends group also raises money through memberships, engages in advocacy and plans pro-literacy events for the community, according to the library's Friends Groups page.

"Book sales help fund library programs," Jacksonville Public Library representative Jackie Spiritas said at a January Southeast Community Planning Advisory Committee meeting while announcing a separate Friends of the Mandarin Library sale held Feb. 6-7.

Robin Davis serves as president of the Friends of the Mandarin Library. Members of Friends groups may receive special discounts or early access at sales, the library's website notes.

The city of Jacksonville promoted the Mandarin sale on its official account Monday, Sept. 28, alongside a simultaneous Friends of the Beaches Branch Library sale running through Saturday, Oct. 3, at 600 Third St. The two sales give Jacksonville library supporters multiple chances to shop for cheap reads and support their local branches in the same week.

Residents who want to support the Mandarin Branch but cannot attend the sale can join the Friends group through the Jacksonville Public Library website.
