Christ’s Church Academy is headed to the Florida High School Athletic Association state volleyball semifinals for the fifth time after defeating Beaches Chapel in the Region 1-1A final.
Eagles win four-set regional final
CCA won 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20 on Oct. 27 at its home gym in Mandarin, the Florida Times-Union reported. The Eagles improved to 22-7 and advanced to the final four.
The Class 1A semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 2 at Polk State College in Winter Haven, according to the FHSAA schedule. The FHSAA determines the semifinal matchups through its final-four seeding process.
A young roster handles pressure
Head coach Anna Renton’s varsity squad has one senior and three middle school students. CCA dropped the third set before closing out the match in the fourth.
“We had to just keep our energy up and not get too comfortable … keep doing what we're supposed to do and trust our training,” senior Alexandra Stowell told the Times-Union.
The Eagles reached the regional final after sweeping St. Johns Country Day 25-22, 25-23, 25-21 in the second round Oct. 24, according to MaxPreps.
Fifth state semifinal appearance
CCA won the Class 3A state championship in 2017 and reached the state semifinals in 2016, 2018 and 2022. The Eagles entered the regional final on a five-match winning streak.
