The Bolles School girls' weightlifting team will host its inaugural "Pumpkin Pump" invitational on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Davis Gym on the San Jose Campus. Entry is free.
The Halloween-themed meet is open to local independent schools and serves as both a competition and an instructional session to open the 2026-27 weightlifting season, according to the school's athletics department. Experienced weightlifting judges will officiate and provide guidance on proper lifting form to help competitors as they begin the new season.
The judges will not only run the competition but also offer individual insight on technique, the school said. Bolles described the event as a way to grow the weightlifting program while advancing the health and wellness of its student-athletes.
A ceremony honoring donors to the Bolles boys' and girls' weightlifting programs begins at 8:50 a.m. The school will recognize Ben and Julie Bradley and Don and Yomary Downer for their contributions, which support training, competition and events for Bolles weightlifting student-athletes. Competition starts after the ceremony.
Spectators and attendees are encouraged to wear costumes. A food truck will be on site.
The Pumpkin Pump is the first invitational the Bolles girls' weightlifting program has hosted. The school's announcement did not name which independent schools plan to compete.
The Bolles School posted the event details on X on Thursday, Oct. 22, confirming the 8:50 a.m. ceremony time and post-ceremony competition schedule.
Davis Gym is on the Bolles San Jose Campus. The event is free and open to spectators.
