Bolles School senior Matthew Chanan-Khan earned the Florida High School Student of the Year award from the Florida Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).

The organization presented the honor at its annual conference in Orlando on Saturday, Sept. 19, according to the school. Chanan-Khan, a member of the Class of 2027, was nominated by his upper school Spanish teacher, Adriana Stam, who also chairs the World Languages Department at Bolles.

Chanan-Khan serves as president of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, the school's Spanish Honor Society. He earned perfect scores in Poetry Declamation and Impromptu speaking at the Florida State Spanish Conference, known as Congreso, and scored in the top percentiles on the National Spanish Exams.

He also served as a host student in the Bolles Spanish Exchange Program. He is enrolled in AP Spanish Literature and Culture, the school's most advanced Spanish course, and plans to continue studying Spanish in college.
