Mandarin-area drivers heading north on I-295 will lose their San Jose Boulevard on-ramp for two consecutive overnight closures starting Monday, Sept. 21.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) plans to shut the ramp from San Jose Boulevard, also known as State Road 13, to I-295 North from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. both Monday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 22, as Action News Jax reported. Crews will install pavement markings on I-295 North.
The work is weather- and conditions-dependent, FDOT said.
Detour route for affected drivers
During the closures, drivers should take I-295 South to Old St. Augustine Road to reach I-295 North, according to the detour FDOT posted. The source did not specify an exit number or added mileage for the detour.
A familiar shutdown for Mandarin commuters
The San Jose Boulevard ramp has been shut multiple times since June for I-295 North construction work. FDOT District 2 announced on X in mid-June that two inside lanes of I-295 North over the Buckman Bridge and the San Jose Boulevard ramp would close from 10 p.m. Friday, June 19, through 4 a.m. Monday, June 22, for bridge work.
A similar weekend closure followed in late July. FDOT District 2 posted on July 29 that double lane closures over the Buckman Bridge and the San Jose Boulevard ramp to I-295 North were planned for bridge joint work, advising drivers to seek alternate routes. The city of Jacksonville amplified that alert on July 30.
Then on Aug. 5, FDOT District 2 announced another weekend shutdown of two outside lanes over the Buckman Bridge and the same ramp, again for bridge work.
Those earlier closures involved bridge joint repairs. The Sept. 21-22 work is for pavement markings. FDOT has not said whether the two types of work are part of the same broader project.
