Duval County voters have cast nearly 124,000 ballots through early voting and vote-by-mail, pushing turnout to 18.92% after the first full week of in-person voting.

The Duval County Supervisor of Elections office reported 15,764 early votes on Monday, Oct. 26, bringing the cumulative total to 123,938. The county has more than 655,000 active registered voters.

That marks a significant jump from the 96,444 ballots tallied through Saturday, Oct. 24, when turnout stood at 14.72%. By Sunday, Oct. 25, the total had climbed to 107,463, according to nightly updates from Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland's office.

As we reported Oct. 25, extended early voting hours took effect Monday. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 30. Weekend hours on Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 is the final day of early voting.

Democrats cast the largest share of ballots, at approximately 60,000, followed by about 44,000 from Republicans, First Coast News reported. Other voters, including those without a party affiliation, accounted for more than 19,000.

Holland projected at least 65% overall turnout for the Nov. 3 general election, Action News Jax reported before early voting began. A more comparable benchmark is 2022, when turnout reached just over 50% with the governor's race on the ballot, according to First Coast News. Final turnout in 2024 hit 73.25%.

At the top of the ticket this year, Republican Byron Donalds faces Democrat David Jolly in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to Action News Jax. A U.S. Senate special election pits appointed Republican Sen. Ashley Moody against Jacksonville state Rep. Angie Nixon, a Democrat.

Registered Duval County voters can cast a ballot at any of the county's 24 early voting sites. Two new locations opened in District 10, including one at Edward Waters University, Action News Jax reported. Voters should bring a valid photo ID with a signature, according to the elections office.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters with questions can call the Duval County Elections Office at 904-255-8683 or visit duvalelections.gov.
